Life, Day 9, Quitting smoking sucks
I’ve been on the Chantix for about a week now. Infact, I started on the second week’s packet today (they come in week packets for the first month, then in normal bottles). I finally realized I wasn’t going to just “wean myself off” of the cancer sticks, so this morning I decided I just wasn’t going to smoke. Period.
Let me tell you, my body was NOT going to let go of the nicotine that easily. Man, it faught like hell, and unfortunately, finally won. I lit one up around noon, having bummed one from a smoking buddy.
I don’t want to kick myself over it, honestly, but my foot was just aching to take a swat at my ass all afternoon.
However, I must continue. This habit has to go… it’s expensive, it’s nasty, it’s terribly unhealthy, and if I have to hear my daughters start going through the whole “smoking contains rat poisons, cleaners, etc.” spiel that they learned at school one more time, this grown man is probably going to break down and cry…
So tonight, as of this writing, I have two cigarettes left. I’m going to smoke them both. Then I’m going to go to bed. And in the morning, I’m going to keep myself busier than a bee to ensure I don’t have time to think about it. I’ve tried quitting before, day 1 is always the hardest. Just got to make it past tomorrow.
Wish me luck.

Good Luck with quitting. I am a smoker too and I know how hard it is.

I struggled with smoking for years. Last month, the worst flu ever had me bed-ridden for a week. The first couple days, I could barely move. Obviously, I didn’t smoke at all.
I had planned to wean myself off cigarettes, replace it with Ariva (a smokeless tobacco product), then wean myself off that.
The flu helped me quit smoking cold turkey, but I still enjoy the little nicotine buzz I get from Ariva.
One thing that also helps is to cut out caffeine. It slows down the purging of nicotine from your system. Caffeinated beverages are usually linked closely with cigarettes too. I used to enjoy my morning coffee plus cigarette.
Good luck quitting. It’s totally worth it for you, your wallet, for your girls, and for the non-smoking people in your life that you care the most about.
Thanks for that info, about the caffeine. I do drink alot of diet coke and I thought I was learning that was because of the smoking, never considered it may be related the other way around. I guess I could always hope for a bad case of the flu, too ;) Thanks for the comment! — Mike
