DebtKid is giving away his DS Lite, to hear about my dumbest purchase ever. Ok. Which one?

Probably the largest dollar amount stupid purchase I did was buying my F150, which I’ve already talked about to some degree. It was a stupid purchase because at the time, I was living in a 2 bedroom apartment, paying about $510/mo in rent. I bought the truck (a beautiful 4 door super crew, chrome step-ups, tinted windows, satellite radio, UHUhuh…) with payments at about $550/mo.

Now, everyone laughed, because what kind of back-a**wards person has a single car payment more than their apartment rent? Seemed silly enough. However, the worst part was, I was dating a girl who lived approximately 60-70 miles away.

So, a 4.3 litre V-8, plus a 4 door truck, plus a heavy foot, multiplied by 70 miles of high-speed highway everyday (sometimes twice a day, depending where I stayed that night) = one astronomical gas bill!

Six months in, I decided I could no longer afford the truck (the gas to drive it, actually) and had to get rid of it. If I’d not been saved by family who wanted the truck for themselves, I would have taken a $12,000 bath at the dealers when I went to trade it in. Apparently big trucks weren’t in high demand as the gas prices rose.

I’ve got tons of stupid purchases in my past, some as recent as last year, but I’m holding out till someone feels guilty about their XBox 360 purchase before I share that one…
